always at the last minute

Everbody knows that I have this habit of doing things at the very last minute. I don't know why I'm like that myself. Sometimes I do try to do things in advance, but still end up finishing them at the very last minute due to unforeseen circumstances. Just like the other day, I was scrambling to finish this script I was submitting for a competition. The closing date was last Thursday, and I had decided to get started early this time. I started planning and thinking about the script on the very first day the competition was announced on the website, which was somewhere in May. That means I had about four months to complete the script. By middle of June, I had the whole story worked out and it was only a matter of time before I got the whole thing typed out. For certain reasons, I started to procrastinate and got lazy, until the end of July. Just when I felt the urge to continue again, I began to get unusually busy with my day job. The fear of not being able to complete the script on time began to creep in and I started to work on it again, this time late into the night every night. I managed to finish it three days before the closing date and I thought I had broken the jinx this time round. Just when I was to begin printing with my bubblejet printer at home, my wife saw it and volunteered to print it for me at her office the next day as they have a laser printer there, which would make the whole thing look nicer. To my horror, I realized that the alignment was all out when she brought back the printed scripts that night! Luckily I still had two more days before the closing date. She planned to re-print it for me the next day, but the boss was in the office the whole day (which was unusual, according to her), so she could not use the printer. By the time I found out about it, I only had a day left, so I decided to rely on my bubblejet instead that night. As the competition rule states that three sets of the script were required, I began to panic when my printer went out of ink after printing just one set. So the next day, my wife printed another two sets at her office (this time her boss was not around the whole day). I drove to her office and picked them up before heading off to submit the scripts. I looked at my watch after I handed over the scripts to the receptionist: it read 4.46pm. Another fifteen minutes and I would have missed the deadline. Phew!

london '98

I was in London in 1998 with my wife for our honeymoon. While having a drink in a cafe, I found some coins which I think somebody must have dropped on the chair I was sitting on. I pocketed the coins. As we left the cafe, there was this teenage girl asking for donations (in exchange for a stalk of flower), I dug into my pocket and gave her a couple of coins which I picked up earlier in the cafe. She asked for more, and I asked her how much. She said £2, and I dug into my pocket again and I almost couldn't believe it when I found I had exactly £2 in my pocket!

Why this blog? Here I would like to record occurances and coincidences that happen in my life.
